Try Out Tennis this Summer! Open Day at Dumfries Tennis Club

The Wimbledon Championships may currently be taking place three hundred miles to the South, but Dumfries Tennis Club at Nunholm is organising an Open Day to encourage more local people to take up and enjoy the sport. The feel good vibe of the All England Tennis Club in South West London is alive and well in Dumfries.

The Open Day will take place on Saturday July 20th between 10am and 2pm and is free for anyone who wishes to attend. There is a chance to play on the all weather courts, hear about the coaching programmes and club nights that are organised by the Club, get a Tour of the facilities and learn about the range of Club memberships.

Louise Stewart, who has successfully encouraged more women to play tennis at Nunholm said “We are actively trying to increase the numbers of women and girls who participate in tennis. We currently run club nights for women twice a week at the club on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings in addition to the mixed doubles club night on a Monday evening. We also have regular social events, on and off the tennis court.
“A number of our women are also involved in competitive tennis whether that be playing within the D&G leagues or at individual competitions. There is no pressure to play competitively but shows the wide range of events we offer as a player at the club and region wide. In addition to the Dumfries Tennis Club’s Facebook page, there is a Women & Girls Group on Facebook, which has proved popular and helps share our latest news and events to a wider audience. We are keen to welcome anyone who is interested in playing to get in contact, whether you are a beginner to the sport or returning, new faces are always welcome.”

If you’ve always wanted to try out tennis, or take it up again after a period without playing, come along to the Dumfries Sports Club Open Day at Nunholm.
