Lockerbie Golf Club Primary School Competition 02/05/2015 – Results

The Primary School Golf Primary School Competition for children in Primary 5 was held at Lockerbie Golf Club on Saturday 2nd May, 2015.

The competition which was organised by Annandale and Eskdale Active Schools and Community Sport for Dumfries & Galloway Council and Lockerbie Golf Club that brought together children from various primary schools across the Lockerbie school cluster. The competition was supported by a number of local coaches and volunteers and included a Texas scramble, best putt, chip and drive competition and overall school winner trophy.

After a day of fun and competitive golf the results were as follows: –

Chair of Annandale & Eskdale Area Committee, Councillor Ronnie Ogilvie said “it is great to see a revival in the game of golf in the Lockerbie school cluster. There are now a number of opportunities for children at every level on the participation pathway and the number of young people playing is very encouraging.

Lockerbie Golf Club would like to thank Magnox Limited for sponsoring this event and Jill Callendar for presenting the awards on the day of competition. Funding donated from Magnox Limited made it possible for Lockerbie Golf Club to enhance their after school programme with new equipment and allowed coaches to travel to Lockerbie Primary School Clusters to deliver tasters.

Lockerbie Golf Club Coach Lawson McLean said, ‘It was great to see so many Lockerbie Primary Schools take part in this event with a great atmosphere and passion for golf displayed by all pupils taking part.’
The club has recently started a “Golf School”, of which membership is not essential, and meets every Thursday night 4pm till 6pm where everyone is made very welcome and equipment can be provided.
