Queen of the South Ladies Take Home Win Against Ayr

Queen of the South Ladies welcomed Ayr United to a hot and humid NWCC on Sunday for matchday 4.

The opening exchanges were quite even with both teams looking to assess their opponents.  Queens opened the scoring after 22 minutes when Holly Ovens raced on to a through ball to round the keeper and roll the ball into the empty net.  Queens upper the tempo and 2 minutes later Holly again outpaced the defence and squared the ball to Kirsty Macdonald who fired home.  Ayr were playing a long ball game but Queens’ central defence of Shiv and Charlotte mopped everything up.  Holly scored twice, in the 40th and 45th minutes, to complete her hat trick before half time.

The second half was again very competitive, but Holly added another goal, rounding the keeper to score.  Queens seemed to relax slighty at 5-0 as Ayr score thwo goals in a short space of time to give themselves some hope, but Queens lifted their game and Holly added another goal, her 5th of the game, shooting into the top corner after good build up play by Megan Masterton.  Debutant Lyndsey Broadfoot came close to adding to the tally before Megan Masterton scored Queens’ 7th, and Eve Jackson finished the scoring when she burst through the middle of the defence after beating Ayr’s offside trap and fired the ball high into the right hand corner.  FT 8-2 to Queens.

This Sunday Queens play Annan Athletic Ladies in a League Cup tie.
