Queen of the South Ladies Travel to Glasgow for Win Against Harmony Row

Queens Ladies travelled to Glasgow on Sunday to take on Harmony Row Ladies.  Queens couldn’t have got off to a worse start when Harmony Row scored within seconds of the kick off, an effort from the halfway line beating keeper Sophie Ingram who had come out to the edge of her area and could only watch as the ball went over her head and into the net.  Queens had to work hard in the early stage to prevent Harmony Row from increasing their lead, but Queens also had some chances with Freya Brown providing a series of good deliveries from corners, but Queens’ attackers couldn’t find the finishing touch. Things got worse for Queens when Harmony Row broke away and scored a second goal.  However Queens hit back with a goal from the irrepressible Megan Masterton who raced through to get herself one on one with the keeper, and she shot home.

Queens made some tactical and personnel changes for the second half as they fought for an equaliser, but it wasn’t until the 77th minute that they made the breakthrough.  It was Maisie Copland who created the goal, pushing forward in typical Mazy Maisie fashion before releasing Kirsty McDonald who cut inside from the left hand side before firing a right footed drive into the bottom corner from outside the box. Maisie wasn’t finished and as Queens piled on the pressure Eve Jackson’s perfect through ball picked Maisie out and she fired in the winning goal much to the delight of the travelling spectators.  Harmony row had a final chance to grab a point when they won a free kick, but keeper Sophie Ingram pulled of a great double save to ensure the three points travelled back to Dumfries.  Final score 3-2 to Queens, and a great comeback against a strong Harmony row team.  Queens now top the league by a single point and look to cement their position on Sunday when Falkirk Ladies visit the NWCC.
