Queens Ladies Faced Tough Battle At Killwinning

Queens Ladies were at Kilwinning on Sunday for a Biffa SWFL (South) league fixture.  Queens were expecting a hard game and so it proved. Queens took an early lead in the 4th minute when Jordyn Gallagher shot home from the edge of the box. With 14 minutes gone, Megan Hodgson added Queens’ second, heading home from a free kick into the box.  Queens controlled the rest of the first half but couldn’t add to their lead, and keeper Sophie Ingram was called into action to turn a Kilwinning shot round the post.

The second half saw some strong tackles flying in, and at one point Megan Hodgson was fouled by a Kilwinning defender who was then booked.  Hodgson herself was also booked for being fouled, a rather inexplicable decision by the referee.  Despite the physicality of some of the Kilwinning play, Queens were able to see the game out fairly comfortably and bring the three points back to Dumfries, maintaining their 100% league record this season.  Queens (15 points from 5 games) now sit top of the league, two points ahead of Stewarton United.

This Sunday, Queens are at home to Nithsdale Wanderers Ladies who currently sit near the bottom of the table with a single point from 5 games.  Kick off at NWCC is 2pm and spectators are welcome.  Admission free.
