The third annual Regional Primary Schools Badminton Competition took place at David Keswick Athletics Centre on Sunday 20 March. The event saw pupils from across Dumfries and Galloway compete as part of the physical education, physical activity and sport (PEPAS) development.
The P6 and P7 players, who earned their place at this event due to winning their area based events, were not only competing for regional status but also as an entry to the National Primary Schools Championships at Perth on 7 May 2016.
The competition, organised by Dumfries and Galloway Council was a ‘smash’ with pupils and parents, seeing some spectacular game play with many games going right to the wire. Former Olympian and Commonwealth badminton player Anne Robertson umpired throughout the day and presented the prizes to the winning pupils.
Vice Chair of the Education Committee, Councillor David McKie said;
“The talent we have in this region is second to none and this event proves that. It is great to see so many friends and families supporting the youngsters today and thanks must also go to them for encouraging and enabling their children to take part in sport and physical activity throughout the region.”
