Registration Open For Girls Summer Rugby Camp

The Stewartry Sirens women’s rugby team is running a free summer rugby camp open to girls of school age from across Dumfries and Galloway this month.

The camp, which will be held at Stewartry Rugby Club on Thursday the 15th and Friday the 16th of August from 9am-3pm, is free to attend and is open to girls of all ages, from P1 through to S6. Attendees will be offered different activities based on their age.

Organised by Sirens Lauren Gunn and Clare Dooley, this camp will be the first of its kind in the Stewartry, and is being run in an effort to introduce girls to the sport through fun activities and skill sessions, and will also allow those who have played rugby before to practice in a friendly environment alongside ladies from the adult section and qualified coaches from the club.

There is an exciting opportunity available for a local business to support this camp and sponsor the girls. A £250 sponsorship will help set up and run the camp and provide each girl with a T-shirt to wear during the camp, which will feature the business logo. This is the perfect opportunity for a local business to support a community team and help secure the future of the Sirens.

Event co-organiser and local teacher Clare Dooley said:

“Women’s rugby is continuing to evolve in Scotland, and the national women’s team is becoming a force on the international rugby scene as they maintain their development. At the Sirens, we’re always looking for ways to promote rugby and sport in general to women and girls of all ages, so we thought a summer camp would be the perfect opportunity for girls who want to come and have a go!”

She continued:

“I didn’t start playing rugby until a few years ago, and I would have loved the opportunity to take it up at school. Playing sport is a great way to meet new people, as well as staying fit and healthy, and we’re really excited to launch the summer camp this month.”

Registration is free, and anyone interested in attending can get in touch by sending a message to the Stewartry Sirens Facebook page, calling 07415 121 570, or emailing [email protected]
