Scotland Senior Debut for Dumfries’s McBride – Cricket News

Local cricketer Chris McBride, who learnt his cricket at Dumfries Cricket Club, achieved a debut for the Scotland Men’s senior side on Friday in Dubai.

There he played in the final dramatic Scotland two wicket win in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 against Oman where the Scotland squad achieved their tour objective with four wins out of four against them and Papua New Guinea.

He becomes the first player from Dumfries Cricket Club to have played for the Scotland Men’s team.

Scotland Captain Kyle Coetzer said of Chris, “He deserves this chance, and it is great to see guys from the wider squad pushing more experienced players.” Prior to the series Chris said, “In terms of this chance with Scotland, I have worked hard for it over the last few years and I feel I am ready to give it my all if selected”.

The 22 year-old batting all-rounder has had spells with Durham County, in Australia, and captains the Oxford Universities side. Recent appearances for Scotland ‘A’, the Scotland Performance Academy, and winter training with the Scotland core squad earned hin his selection for this tour.
