Scottish Cup 2nd Round Victory For Queens Ladies

Queens Ladies can look forward to a trip to Bonnyrigg Rose in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup on 3rd December after seeing off Buchan United Ladies in their 2nd round tie at NWCC last Sunday.

Queens opened the scoring in the 7th minute when Kirsty Macdonald fired a looping shot from 20 yards over the Buchan keeper.  Play was fairly even until the 35th minute when a precise through ball found Holly Ovens on the right.  She raced in towards the corner of the area, calmly rounded the outrushing keeper and passed the ball into the net.  Queens quickly added a third in the 37th minute, Freya Brown picking the ball up in midfield before hitting a terrific strike from the edge of the area.  Half time 3-0 to Queens.

Play was fairly even in the second half but after 67 minutes Maisie Copland picked up a loose ball on the left and ran through the Buchan defence beating defender after defender before finishing with a precise shot across the keeper and into the far corner.  Two minutes later, Alexandra Connon added a fifth goal for Queens, picking up a pass from the left inside the area and creating space for herself before shooting into the left hand corner.  Maisie Copland made it 6 with her second goal, pretty much a repeat of her first.  Eve Jackson rounded off the scoring in the 89th minute, racing through the centre before placing her shot beyond the keeper.

Final score Queens 7  Buchan United 0, and a performance that raises optimism that Queens Ladies can continue their cup run into the latter stages of the competition.

This Sunday, Queens Ladies are at home to Ayr United Ladies at NWCC, kick off 2pm.
