Solway Sharks Juniors welcomed Murrayfield Junior Ice Hockey Club to Dumfries ice bowl last weekend.

The youngest team, the U12s, put on a fine show – Captain Lewis Gibson opening the scoring after 8 seconds to lead by example. There were goals aplenty throughout the game, and some flowing, fluid play from the youngsters. Play was end-to-end, with the teams both battling hard before Solway gained the upper hand and emerged victorious by 9 goals to 5. The final points tally was Lewis Gibson 5 goals and an assist, Kyle Carruth 2 goals, Ewan Duignan and Robert McLardy scored a goal each, and Bailey Thomson and Owen Rae both added an assist each.

After the game coach Craig Jackson said, “Today’s game saw Murrayfield coming to Solway after beating us by two goals a fortnight ago in Edinburgh. We got off to a really good start in the game today with a goal after 8 seconds, from that point the team took control of the game and at no point looked like we were going to give that up.

We had some great team and individual performances today, none less than under 10’s net minder Braiden Howat who put in a great performance between the pipes. This was a great overall performance from the young sharks and hopefully we can continue to build on this. We now have back to back wins, and will look to take that to 3 on the bounce when South Ayr visit us at the Ice Bowl in two weeks time.”

Braiden Howat was deservedly named Man of the Match, and is pictured with his trophy.
