St. Michael’s Take on Gamblesby at Kingholm – Cricket News

On Saturday August 27th, St. Michael’s Cricket Club were at home at Kingholm Park against nearest rivals Gamblesby, and skipper Reece McNay’s decision to put their opponents into bat was vindicated with excellent bowling by opening pair Kieran Moore and Tom Holmes reducing the away team to 46 all out after 17 overs, with nine of them being bowled.

Gamblesby’s openers started confidently with 21 runs being on the board after 7 overs, but a magic piece of fielding by Niamh Muir running out key batsman Darren Coleman, with only one stump to aim at changed the momentum of the match.

Holmes and Moore then took centre stage, Moore bowling with pace and Holmes a fuller length, but doing plenty with the ball. The away side couldn’t cope with the varying styles, Holmes finishing with six wickets, and Moore three.

The two bowlers were backed up in the field with wicket keeper Duncan Muir not conceding any byes.

In reply Saints wrapped up the match in 7 overs by 9 wickets, with Rory Macleod being the only wicket to fall, for 6, being run out by a sharp throw by J.Forrester. Holmes finished 37n.o. his partner F.Naqvi 4n.o.

Saints just need one point from their last two matches, one of which is at home, to be champions, that is assuming that Gamblesby win their last two matches.

The Nithsdale Farm Vets performance of the day was shared between Tom Holmes and Kieran Moore for their match winning opening bowling display.
