Stewartry Continue Winning Streak Away At Cambuslang

Stewartry sitting in third place in Tennent’s West One League were hoping to keep their seven game unbeaten run going when they visited Cambuslang who are down in eleventh place.

On a cold but dry day Cambuslang kicked off into the Stewartry 22 but were quickly penalised for a high tackle which was going to be a feature throughout the game of a high penalty count. First to show for Stewartry was Captain John Picken who was stopped just short of the try line.

Stewartry continued to press with wind assistance hampering the home teams clearances kicks gave Jason Forsyth a chance charging home in twelve minutes for the opening try. The conversion added by JP twelve minutes 7-0 Stewartry. Cambuslang continued to be penalised plus extra metres for dissent but the kick was missed. Picken was to the fore in the next attack with Milligan on his shoulder but the pass out went astray. Twenty five minutes gone and another Blacks scoring chance was lost another Forsyth break with Maxwell in tow before Milligan was stopped just short of the line.

Minutes before half time a series of set scrums from Cambuslang knock ons gave Stewartry another scoring chance giving Fraser Forsyth a try for Stewartry to lead 12-0 at the half time.

Not long into the restart Stewartry lost a scoring chance and then were penalised for a late tackle with the Blacks down to fourteen men for a yellow card. From the penalty kick the home team took play up to the Blacks 22 before JP kicked long into the the Cambuslang half. Lochie Spence came on for Denerly and immediately made space bringing the backline into play with a good handling move for Scott Milligan to score a try at his third attempt 17-0.
