Stranraer Half Marathon 2016 – Results and Report

The 14th Annual Stranraer Half Marathon plus Junior Runs took place on Saturday 5 March. Nine races including fun runs were held throughout the day with over 300 entries.

The winner of the Half Marathon, which is accurately measured at a distance of 13 miles and 192.5 yards, was Robert Gilroy of Ronhill Cambuslang Harriers in the time of 1 hour 10 minutes, 42 seconds.

Robert was closely followed over the finish line by Kerry-Liam Wilson also of Ronhil Cambuslang Harries with a time of 1 hour 14 minutes and 42 seconds, third across the line was Alan Baxter of Dumfries Running club with a time of 1 hour 19 minutes and 36 seconds.

The winning female who completed the race in 1 hour 34 minutes 11 seconds was Angela Reid of North Ayrshire AC. Second place went to Shanna Stitt of Kirkudbright Running Club with a time of 1 hour 39 minutes and 51 seconds, she was follwed over the line by third place Alison McKean of Dumfries Running Club with a time of 1 hour 42 minutes and 47 seconds.

Ross Bark was the first local male home in a time of 1 hour 21 minutes and 28 seconds. The prize for first Wigtownshire local lady home went to Martina Moore of the Galloway Harriers in 1 hour 49 minutes and 7 seconds.

Half marathon team prizes, which were calculated on combined times of the 3 fastest runners in each team, the Male team which won in a combined time of 4 hours 2 minutes and 24 seconds was Dumfries Running Club (Alan Baxter, Kevin Conchar and Niall Campbell).

First female team with a combined time of 5 hours, 34 minutes and 14 seconds was also Dumfries Running Club (Alison McKean, Sheila Graham and Fiona Jardine)

The Senior Fun Run saw competitions completing the accurately measured 4 mile course. The male winner of this fun run was John Pulmridge with a time of 29 minutes and 37 seconds. The first female runner was Kirsteen Kellock with a time of 33 minutes and 33 seconds.

The 14, 15 and 16 year olds race was completed on the 4 mile course. First male home in a time of 25 minutes and 15 seconds was Lachlan Caulfield.

In the 12 and 13 year olds race was completed over a course of 2,100 metres, Euan Hannan placed first, William Nash was second and Moray Ferguson. Bronagh Beattie was the first female home with Maria Stachnio second and Mia Gurling came in third.

The 10 and 11 year olds Fun Run covering 1,400 metres was won by Ryan Edgar. Second place went to Kieran Govan and third went to Kieran Smith. Emily Ferguson was the first girl home followed in second place by Ailsa Erskine and third by Imogen Raphael.

The final 3 fun runs of the day within the vicinity of the track were the 4 and under, 5 and 6 year olds and 7,8 and 9 year olds.

Councillor Marion McCutcheon also commented;

“In line with our Council’s priority to being an inclusive council, the Stranraer Half Marathon allows local people, communities and businesses to make the most of the local areas assets by bringing people nationwide to Stranraer to participate in the annual event. It also gives all local children the opportunity to be healthy and active in their local community by taking part in the junior fun runs.”

Without the help and support,the many volunteers and partner agencies the Half Marathon would not have been such a success.
