The annual Outdoor Primary School Netball League came to an exciting close on Monday 13 June at Stair Park MUGA after 6 weeks of competitive matches.
This year 10 primary school teams entered the league and played against each other over the six weeks. The league was very close this year with teams being on similar points throughout the weeks leading up to the final afternoon.
All teams were invited along to Stair Park after all the scheduled games were played to take part in a small presentation. All pupils were rewarded for their efforts and praise was given to all pupils for the excellent skills and sportsmanship on show over the weeks and also to all teachers, parents and volunteers who have worked so hard over both the winter and summer league with all the children.
The Outdoor Primary League Netball winners for 2016 were Rephad A. In second place was Castle Kennedy after an outstanding performance, only losing one game and contending for top place during the league. In third place was Sheuchan A who once again worked hard and pushed the top 2 hard.
Councilor Tom McAughtrie, Chair of Communities Committee said:
“‘In line with Dumfries and Galloway Council’s priority to provide the best start in life for all our children the Primary School Netball League supports children to be healthy and active. It is wonderful to see high levels of participation in the netball league. Congratulations to the winning team, Rephad A and well done to everyone who took part.’
Organisers would like to thank Irene Kennedy, Corina Erskine, Amanda McFern and Lisa Arnott from Stranraer Ladies Netball League who umpired the games. Thanks also to Stranraer Ladies Netball League who help and support the primary school netball leagues.
