THORNHILL SCHOOLBOY MAKES IT 2 OUT OF 2 RACE WINS IN SCOTTISH SUPER SERIES KARTING

13 year old Wallace Hall Academy pupil Cameron Thomson has raced to his 2nd victory in the Scottish Super Series Karting Championship at Golspie on Sunday. This is his 2nd victory in the series after winning the first round earlier in the year at Crail.

Cameron has enjoyed a successful season since Graduating from Honda cadet class to Minimax class this year. The young driver won many accolades during his 3 years in karting including the Scottish S plate open Champion in 2013.

Cameron is proud to drive for Saltire Motorsport who have previously developed the talent of local McLaren GT driver Ross Wylie and Williams F1 test driver Susie Wolff.

Cameron also won the Ryan Dalziel award last season for the talented display on track and also his mature attitude off. The prize for this was to accompany Ryan at the first round of the World Endurance Championship at Silverstone this year and Ryan has encouraged Cameron’s considerable talent and potential.

It had been some time since Cameron drove at the Golspie circuit but after the long drive up for practice Cameron was quickly setting the pace.

On Sunday the day began with typical North of Scotland weather and stayed wet most of the day through the qualifying heats.

After scoring steady points in the 3 heats Cameron started from 3rd on the grid for the final. With the track rapidly drying he started the final on slick tyres which was unfamiliar for all the drivers. On the start Cameron dropped to 4th but with a typical gutsy drive he quickly worked his way through to 1st and pulled away to win by a dominating 3 and 1/2 seconds.

Cameron said “After not having been to Golspie for 2 years and only ever racing there once before in cadets I am so proud to have won today and would like to thank my family and team for all their support”
