The call is now out for nominations for the forthcoming 2016 Nithsdale Sports Awards. Nithsdale Sports Council in partnership with the Active Schools and Community Sport team from Dumfries and Galloway Council are organising the Nithsdale Sports Awards Ceremony for the sporting year 2015 – 2016 which will be held at the Cairndale Hotel on 26th August at 7.00pm, Tickets are available from Senga Thomson, details below.
Do you know of any teams or individuals who deserve recognition for their dedication and commitment to local sport or outstanding success in their sport during 2015 – 16? If so, anyone wishing to put forward a, team or individual is invited to submit a nomination form for one or more of the following categories:
Male Sports Personality of the Year sponsored by Dumfries and Galloway Standard
This award aims to recognise the achievements of a top male sports performer in 2015/2016. This includes performer that compete at Paralympic and elite levels (ages 18 and over). Nominees must reside within Nithsdale, have amateur status and compete in a sport recognised by sportscotland.
Female Sports Personality of the Year sponsored by Dumfries and Galloway Standard
This award aims to recognise the achievements of a top female sports performer in 2015/2016. This includes performer that compete at Paralympic and elite levels (ages 18 and over). Nominees must reside within Nithsdale, have amateur status and compete in a sport recognised by sportscotland.
Disability Sports Personality of the Year: this includes performers that compete in all age categories with a disability. Nominees must reside within Nithsdale, have amateur status and compete in a sport recognised by sportscotland.
Young Male Sports Personality of the Year
This award aims to recognise the achievements of a top male junior sports performer in 2015/2016. They must not have reached 18 years of age by 31st December 2015. Nominees must reside within Nithsdale and compete in a sport recognised by sportscotland.
Young Female Sports Personality of the Year
This award aims to recognise the achievements of a top female junior sports performer in 2015/2016. They must not have reached 18 years of age by 31st December 2015. Nominees must reside within Nithsdale and compete in a sport recognised by sportscotland.
Coach of the Year Award sponsored by Cairndale Hotel
This award aims to recognise the achievements and commitment of a coach in 2015/2016. This award applied to coaches at all levels. Coaches in fully professional jobs are not eligible – for example manager/coach of professional football club, professional tennis coach, professional golf coach.
Junior Team of the Year Award sponsored by Active Schools
This award aims to recognise the achievements and commitment of a junior team/group in 2015/2016. The nominees must not have reached 18 years of age by 31st December 2015.
Disability Coach of the Year: This award aims to recognise the hard work and dedication of those who give up their time to help athletes with additional needs.
Team of the Year Award
This award aims to recognise the achievements and commitment of a sports team/group in 2015/2016. This award applied to sports teams/groups at all levels.
Club Volunteer of the Year sponsored by Crichton Golf Club
This award aims to recognise the commitment and dedication of a volunteer within the club based in Nithsdale.
Club of the Year Award:
This award aims to recognise an amateur sports club who has made a real contribution to their local community.
McMurdo Award for Services to Local Sport:
This award aims to recognise someone who has made an outstanding contribution to sport in Nithsdale as administrator, official, coach or helper over a number of years. For this award, nominees must not be competitors or performers.
Chair of Nithsdale Area Committee, Councillor Ted Thompson commented: “We are now looking for nominations from all areas of sports activities: whether as a competitor, a coach, a teacher, event organiser, an official or indeed as the volunteer behind the scenes who does all the work necessary to keep our local clubs functioning.”
