Women’s Cricket: Dumfries & Galloway Women Finish League In Fourth

The combined Dumfries, Galloway side completed their Scottish Women’s Premier League fixtures with a comprehensive defeat of Watsonians in Edinburgh on Sunday.

Watsonians were asked to field first and the innings, and the game, was dominated by a second wicket partnership between century makers Roshini Prince-Navaratnam and Hannah Rainey. Together they set up the team’s highest score of the season with a 193 run partnership. Hannah was first to her century and was out bowled attempting a further six for a score of 109 of 72 balls and with sixteen boundaries. Opener Roshini soon followed her century to bat through to reach 105 not out. Orla Montgomery straight drove her way to a rapid fifteen to help get the side to a big total of 244 for 3 after the thirty overs. Both century makers shared the Ashleigh Building Player of the Match accolade.

The Watsonians reply was stymied when three wickets fell with the score approaching twenty. Montgomery took two in two with full swinging deliveries capable of dismissing anyone and Rainey also claimed a wicket. Emma Fordyce had a direct hit run out and Rosy Ryan took a further wicket bowled.  Niamh Muir also hit the stumps twice for her three wickets and aided by a good catch by Katy Anderson. Jo Williams bowled the final wicket as the home side could just reach 42 all out.

The side’s win meant that they finished fourth in the Premier League with the two sides above them also registering five wins and league winners Carlton one more with six wins and one defeat.
