Stewartry Sirens Launch ‘Come and Try’ Women’s Rugby Sessions

The Stewartry Sirens are running three ‘come and try’ women’s rugby sessions this month in association with the SRU’s ‘Be The Best You’ campaign.

Stewartry Rugby Club is one of more than 20 clubs across the country to host free rugby taster sessions this summer for women.

Women across Scotland are being invited to try rugby for the first time as part of Scottish Rugby’s #BeTheBestYou campaign to encourage women of all ages, body sizes and experience to give it a go.

The Sirens will be hosting three sessions across the region on the following dates:

  • Sunday 13/08/17 – Kirkcudbright (in front of the swimming pool)
  • Friday 18/08/17 – Dumfries Rugby Club
  • Sunday 27/08/17 – Stewartry Rugby Club

All of the sessions will take place at 6.30pm and the session on Sunday 27th of August will follow the Sirens first game of the 2017/18 season at home to Murrayfield Wanderers.

Each of the #BeTheBestYou sessions will involve an introduction to basic rugby skills and fitness, and so will be suitable to women of all ages, fitness levels, shapes and sizes.

Sandy Currie, Coach of the Stewartry Sirens, had the following to say about the events:

“We’re really excited about the #BeTheBestYou campaign that the SRU are currently running. It’s fantastic to see so many people getting behind women’s rugby, especially at such an exciting time with the Women’s Rugby World Cup coming up in Ireland this week.”

He continued:

“The Sirens have continued to go from strength to strength since day one, and we’d love to recruit some new players into the squad. We’re about to embark on our second season in the BT Women’s Premier League, and so it’s a really great time to get involved with the sport in Dumfries and Galloway.”
