Moffat To Go Wild For Drovers

In celebration of Moffat’s rich sheep farming heritage Moffat Promotions Group will be staging our first ever Drove Day on Sunday 11th August, 2019, from 12 noon until 4.00 pm.

A Spokesperson from Moffat Promotions Group told DGWGO “Our aim is to recognise the importance of the sheep farming history and future of our town with an event that will be both educational and entertaining.
The main focus of the day will a number of droves from the War Memorial to the iconic Moffat Ram, featuring up to 6 breeds of sheep. Details about each breed and their uses will be given from the stage as a shepherd droves them up the street.
A selection of sheep and wool-related items will be on display, accompanied by further information and photographs. The Dumfries and Galloway Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers will be joining us to give spinning demonstrations. They will also be holding an interactive scarf weaving competition.
After each drove there will be a ‘Drovers’ Dash‘, involving participants from many of our town’s clubs and organisations, culminating in a Champion of Champions race at the end of the day.
With the Moffat Farmers Market at the Town Hall, music and on-going entertainment on the High Street throughout the day, as well games and activities, we hope this new event has something for everyone.”
