Storytelling & Arts Workshop at Dumfries Museum Well Attended

Young people recently enjoyed a storytelling and arts workshop at Dumfries Museum. The event was part of Children in Scotland’s Living Museums project and the exhibition Times Change: Youth Work Through History part seeks to change perceptions of museums by speaking with young people and ensuring their voices are heard.

Host Chris said: “The exhibition was curated by young people focusing on the theme of children’s work and employment in the past and this session was designed to help young people explore the museum, the exhibition, and the historic objects in an imaginative way. Some of the stories the young people wrote were quite wild so it was a lot of fun.”
Hagen Patterson of The Holywood Trust, which supported the event, said: “This project provides young people the foundation for creativity, critical thinking, and connection to the world around them.”

Councillor Andy Ferguson, chair of the Communities committee, attended the event and said: “I really enjoyed hearing the ideas and seeing the confidence of the young people. I hope to see more such projects and partnerships at the museum in future.”
