The woman who died following a fatal crash on the A714, near Newton Stewart has been named as Helen Flannighan.
Around 9.35am on Wednesday, 3 June, 2026, police received a report of a collision involving a Volkswagen Golf and a Suzuki S-Cross, between Newton Stewart and Wigtown.
Emergency services attended and 65-year-old Helen Flannighan, who was a passenger in the Suzuki, died at the scene. The male driver of the Suzuki, aged 72, was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and the 34-year-old female driver of the Golf was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.
Sergeant Lindsey Tait said: “Our thoughts remain with Helen’s family at this extremely difficult time.
“Our enquiries into the crash continue and I’d like to thank those who have come forward with information. I’d urge anyone who hasn’t yet spoken to police and witnessed the crash or has dash-cam footage which could assist us, to get in touch.
