Historic family-owned garage Robertson Gemini, Castle Douglas has recently been taken over by new management.
A local institution, Robertson Gemini is a garage that has served the region for over 100 years, since 1921. First established in Dalbeattie, before a move to its current home on Cotton Street in Castle Douglas in the 90s, the garage has a long legacy as a local family business. Many people will have known Stewart Robertson, who took the reins of the business at only 13 years old and guided the business for many decades before he unfortunately passed away in 2010. Stewart’s wife Caroline and her new partner David have carried the garage forward since then but have now passed the business into the capable hands of Ashley Madeley and Stephen Houston who have both worked at the garage for many years.
Caroline and David Said “As another chapter in the long life of Robertson Gemini Ltd comes to an end and as a new era beckons it gives both of us immense pleasure to be able to begin the next chapter by handing over the business to new owners.
The history of the Robertson family business over the past 102 years has seen phenomenal changes and together with the support of loyal customers and staff has survived many changes not least the death of Stewart Robertson in 2010. We have successfully led the company since then and now feel it is time to let someone else continue the exciting future growth of Robertson Gemini Ltd.
The new owners, Ashley Madeley and Stephen Houston have worked for Robertson Gemini Ltd for many years and have been instrumental in developing the company to its current successful position. Their combined talents, Stephen front of house and Ashley managing the busy workshop continue the business in its current format with of course further development. It is with great satisfaction that we hand over the company in such good heart and wish Ashley and Stephen a very successful future.”
Ashley and Stephen who have been running the garage for the last 6 months are incredibly excited about taking over a place where they have both worked with a combined tenure of over 20 years.
Stephen says ‘It’s an honour to carry on this business, and to keep the Robertson name going. I had the pleasure of working with Stewart in my early days and learned a lot from him.’
Ashley adds ‘Stephen and I are looking forward to the years ahead growing the business further while working alongside our great team of staff to deliver for all of our customers both existing and new’.
It has been an unpredictable and unprecedented few years for everyone, and Ashley, Stephen and their whole team at Robertsons have come through by committing to the level of service that has kept car owners and buyers coming back to Robertson Gemini for decades, providing knowledge and expertise of both the motor industry and the needs of the local people.
Stephen finishes by saying ‘We want to take the time to thank our customers who have loyally stayed with Robertsons over the years, and assure everyone that Ashley and I plan on carrying forward everything that makes the garage work as it has for so long, while also ensuring we keep with the times and the demands of customers and cars, both old and new.
