Moffat Family Business Leading the Way in Sustainability & Innovation

David and Nicholas Major of White Hill Design Studio LLP in Moffat have been chosen to supercharge innovation in Scotland

The father-and-son team have been selected to join several national networks of professionals working towards a fairer, more sustainable future for Scotland.

Architect David Major is one of a handful of construction professionals chosen to represent the industry as one of the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre’s Innovation Champions. This expert pool of thought leaders will offer insight to create a positive and sustainable future for Scotland’s construction industry.

David said: “Working with CSIC, we’ll be building on our approach of encouraging best practice, particularly across energy efficiency and PassivHaus design.
“This is a great opportunity to work with other innovators and meet some of the challenges of improving the construction industry and the places we live in.”

Meanwhile, Nicholas (23) has been selected for two programmes for young leaders in Scotland.

The 2050 Young Leaders Development Programme (YLDP) gathers 130 changemakers from across Scotland to address climate change by implementing personal, professional and political change.

After his first YLDP sessions, Nicholas said: “This is a great way for me to make an impact and make some of the changes that I think need to be made in the construction industry and society as a whole.
“It’s an opportunity to bounce ideas off a network of passionate young professionals and get perspectives that I wouldn’t normally think about.
“I’m hoping it’ll lead on to good things, both in what I can do personally and what White Hill can do as part of a group of forward-thinking catalysts.”

Nicholas has also been accepted onto the Amaze Me Leader 2018 programme. This exciting new initiative brings together 60 young people aged 18–29 from all over Scotland and Europe. The group will spend a week this summer taking part in adventure-based activities in communities in Dumfries & Galloway, while exploring the issues facing our rural communities today.

The event is being delivered by Sleeping Giants Community CIC on behalf of Dumfries and Galloway LEADER.
