The 10,000 Voices in Action fund launched this week and is now open for youth groups, schools and organisations working with young people to apply for a share of the fund!
£5000 of funding will be allocated in each of the 12 ward areas of Dumfries and Galloway for projects that address priorities that have identified by young people including mental health, bullying and youth opportunities.
Successful applications will be put forward to a public vote in October, and young people across the region will decide how the money is spent through an online voting process, known as participatory budgeting.
This exciting new project has been developed by young people in Dumfries and Galloway as part of the region’s Year of Young People Legacy programme.
Councillor Adam Wilson, Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Young People’s Champion said;
“In 2018, our region hosted a fantastic year of opportunities and experiences for young people as part of the National Year of Young People campaign and we made a promise to ensure that this work was continued beyond 2018. 10,000 Voices in Action is one of many excellent legacy projects in the region that responds directly to the needs and priorities of our young people. With financial investment from the Scottish Government’s Investing in Communities fund, we are able to fund projects in Dumfries and Galloway that will improve the life chances of our young people and support the social renewal of our communities as we begin to recover from COVID-19” Hannah Birse, a member of the Youth Action Group responsible for leading the project said;

Young People make decisions on how the money will be spent in communities to support people in the most effective and relevant way.
