Creetown Farmer Ivies Calendar Raises £1600 for Alzheimer Scotland

A Creetown-based farmer has handed over £1600 to Alzheimer Scotland after raising money through the sale of a calendar.

Ivie Fisher had initially hoped to raise two or three hundred pounds for the charity so was delighted that friends and family were so supportive.

“Although it was mainly people I knew who bought the calendar, there were a few people who got in touch after seeing it on social media.”

Ivie set up a challenge on Facebook to see how far across the world the calendar could go. It ended up in places as far flung as Kenya, Australia and the UAE, as well as more locally, where a number of businesses helped with sales.

“The furthest travelled calendar went to New Zealand and back! A friend near Invercargill bought ten to give as Christmas presents, including one to a local guy who was out there working for the winter.”

Ivie visited Cromarty House in Stranraer on Wednesday to hand over a cheque to staff and volunteers there. The centre supports people in Wigtownshire who are living with dementia and their families.

After selling nearly 250 calendars, Ivie already has plans for the 2020 version:

“I’m thinking of doing something a wee bit different next time round. Watch this space…”.

As well as everyone who bought a calendar, Ivie would like to thank J&B Print in Newton Stewart for printing the calendar, as well as the local businesses that sold it: Imagination Beauty in Newton Stewart; Number 11 and Cobwebs in Wigtown; North West Castle in Stranraer; and Creetown Stores.
