Celebration of Achievement Awards – Stewartry

Last week across Dumfries and Galloway, Celebration of Achievement events have been held in each of the four areas. Initially introduced in 2018 for the National Year of Young People (YOYP), the events have been designed to celebrate the achievements of young people across the region, in order to honour the legacy from YOYP 2018.

During the events, young people were presented with certificates they had achieved through taking part in various Youth Work opportunities in their spare time. Whether it is volunteering at local youth groups or in various community initiatives, learning something new or even by providing opportunities for other young people in their local area. The awards included the Scottish Government’s Saltire award to recognise volunteers, Youth Scotland’s Dynamic Youth recognising participation, Archaeology Scotland’s Heritage awards and the environmental John Muir Award.

Councillor John Young, Chair of Stewartry Area Committee said;

It is fantastic to see the talents and achievements of so many young people being celebrated here in the Stewartry. Congratulations to everyone who has received an award and thank you for making a huge difference in your local communities.”

In Stewartry, the ceremony was held at Castle Douglas town hall on Tuesday 8 October. More than 100 young people and their families, Elected Members and members of the community enjoyed entertainment from local young performer Isla Ginnelly, the official presentation and refreshments.
