Cunninghame Housing Association Support Gretna FC With Their ‘Little Changes’ School Activity Project

Cunninghame Housing Association has provided its funding to support sports fitness-based project delivered by Little Changes and Gretna FC 2008 in support of the Curriculum for Excellence (CFE) Health and Wellbeing outcomes as set out by The Scottish Governments Schools (Health Promotion and Nutrition) (Scotland) Act 2007.

Gretna FC 2008 provide and maintain recreational facilities for Gretna and surrounding areas.

Good health and well-being are a key component of successful learning and social development in young people. The little Changes project will engage with primary school class children from Gretna in 10-week blocks for 2 hours and will assist in tackling the Scottish Governments “Let’s Make Scotland More Active” strategy of ensuring that 80% of those under the age of 16 will meet the minimum level (1 hour) of daily moderate activity by 2022.

In the first half of each Little Changes session over the course of the 10-week block, sports fitness activity will provide 50% of the local schools targeted weekly provision of physical activity.

During the second half of each weekly Little Changes session, the project will embrace the Scottish Governments guide to implementing the Nutritional Require for food and Drink in Schools (Scotland) Regulations 2008.

On 22nd July 2019, Frank Sweeney Group Chief Executive of Cunninghame Housing Association presented a cheque for £1,000 to Gretna Football Club 2008 to assist with project funding for Little Changes – READY, STEADY, GO to help improve young people’s health and wellbeing.

He stated “Gretna Football Club 2008 is a fantastic example of a local community group trying to influence young people’s current and future health prospects by engaging with primary school children from Gretna”

Gretna Football Club commented “We would like to thank Cunninghame Housing Association for the grant cheque we received. The grant will go towards our Little Changes project that we deliver in Gretna Primary School. The pilot programme was successfully delivered last school term and this grant will further fund additional classes as we hope to deliver the project to all classes
