D&G Baby Loss Awareness Battling To Help Raise £150k To Stop Simba Charity Closing

The D&G Baby Loss Awareness Committee are appealing for the support of the community to help save SiMBA.

SiMBA is a national charity that helps bereaved families who have suffered the devastating loss of a baby from any point of pregnancy up to infancy. They provide memory boxes to hospitals, hospices and individuals across the UK allowing them to save some lasting memories of their babies. SiMBA also organise events for families and develop spaces for families to go to remember their little ones, such as the Tree of Tranquility that can be found in the Crichton Gardens, Dumfries.

Lauren Patterson from D&G Baby Loss Awareness Committee told DGWGO “We have seen first hand the positive impact the Tree of Tranquility has had on bereaved families within our community and how important the amazing work this charity does really is for communities across the UK. They are currently in unprecedented circumstances due to the repercussions of the covid-19 pandemic, the cost of living crisis and the demand for their services rising by a staggering 83%. SiMBA are urgently appealing for a further £137,000 of their £220,000 target to be raised to keep the charity running and to continue to support families in the future and we would love to be able to raise as much as we can to help them.

The charity has a special place in the hearts of the committee due to the amazing support they have provided some of the founding members, while also working closely with the team to place a Tree of Tranquillity in Dumfries and Galloway. We have been blown away by the amazing support from the D&G community when fundraising for the tree and hope we can appeal to the community again to help save a charity which is, unfortunately, in such demand.

There are many ways the community can help save this amazing charity:

– Donations can be made straight to SiMBA’s just giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/GivingMemoriesUrgentAppeal?fbclid=IwAR11n9Ndw5oD4arACF7km5RQ060_dREaRFpEM72rgcmmcc6z-ATBN6MBzI0
– Enter the raffle organised by Lynsi Mills: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lynsi-mills?utm_source=copyLink&utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=lynsi-mills&utm_campaign=pfp-share&utm_term=aa32b84bd7564f8dbad897e5dd5609f0
– Host an event; quiz, bake sale, car boot or even pop a donation box on your counter.

We appreciate that not everyone is in a position to help financially but even sharing the news for others to see would be a massive help. We cannot thank the D&G community for the support they have given the Baby Loss Awareness Committee previously and hope that, together, we can do something to help SiMBA!”
