Members of Dumfries U3A were recently taken on a photographic journey by theirMay speaker, David Moyes.
David is a keen amateur photographer, whose work has been exhibited internationally and who has also hosted solo exhibitions in Dumfries and Cumbria. He is particularly interested in architectural photography and they started the tour of Dumfries through his stylised photos of buildings that people might easily overlook.
This was followed with a visit to a number of local churches (most of which members could identify) and then to the Solway coast, where David explained the different techniques he uses to achieve his stunning results.
David also took everyone back in time, sharing images from a project he has been working on where archive photographs of Dumfries are melded with modern shots taken from exactly the same position as the original photographer.
Finally, he shared his latest work which will form an exhibition of portraits to support the Twelve Big Things fundraising project in aid of mental health charities. Members were extremely generous on the day and over £120 was donated to support this cause.
Also this month, the Ukulele Group had a fantastic afternoon playing at The Heathhall Community Centre Family Fun Day. It was a lovely afternoon in the sunshine with great company and a very appreciative audience. Members were delighted to be able to support the community and to raise awareness of u3a.
They would like to thank the Heathhall Community Centre for hosting them and for the great organisation of the event.
U3a welcomes new members and, if you think u3a might be for you, you can attend up to 2 meetings before joining.
