Food Train has declared this month BOXtober – launching a sponsorship drive to help ensure older people in Dumfries and Galloway do not go without lifeline shopping supplies.
The charity has opened its annual fundraising campaign, through which people can sponsor the boxes which carry essential groceries delivered to those who would otherwise struggle with shopping for just £10 each.
In its 30th anniversary year, the Dumfries-founded organisation – whose volunteers shop in Dumfries, Annan, Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart and Stranraer – hopes to have 500 boxes sponsored nationally.
Emma Black, Food Train’s National Fundraising and Marketing Manager, said: “As we enter the third year of the cost of living crisis, many of our members are still cutting back on the food they are eating and the way they are heating their homes.
“Our dedicated volunteers help them make cost-effective choices and explore new options for their weekly groceries.
“For just £10 – that’s under 3p-a-day – you can sponsor a box for a year, making a lasting impact and helping our volunteers to support those who need her most.
“Sponsoring a box is a simple act, but it genuinely makes a difference. It has become a valuable part of our work to ensure we are best equipped to meet the demands we face.”
Each box sponsored locally will stay in the region and will be labelled to recognise the donation for 12 months. Companies can also have their logos included.
The BOXtober campaign comes as Food Train also seeks more volunteers to support its shopping service across the region.
People can support its work by completing shopping lists in supermarkets or delivering them. More information is available at www.thefoodtrain.co.uk.
