Langlands school, Dumfries (Registered Charity SC040743) provides education for pupils aged 11 to 18 from Dumfries and Galloway with severe and complex needs and disabilities. On Friday 28th February Langlands School Parent Council held a race night to help raise funds to continue to operate two Variety Club Minibuses that the school utilise for the pupils.
These minibuses allow the children to travel around our community developing life skills, and having exceptional experiences.
The Parent Council said “These busses are a lifeline for the school and allows them freedom to take the children out into the community whenever they need to, one of the challenges we have been faced with is the cosmetic condition of our oldest bus sadly the paint and stickers are coming off so not only were we faced with the realisation of needing to raise money to keep the busses on the road but also to allow us to repaint and apply new stickers to the older minibus”.
With this huge task in mind, the committee set about organising a race night.
Whilst looking for companies to help sponsor races and donate raffle prizes, Craig McCormack from Dumfries based CM Engineering (Scotland) Ltd offered to help, along with William Paul Motor Engineers, Twynholm and Signright Graphix, Dumfries they are willing to undertake the restoration of the minibus at no cost to the parent council.
“This is an immeasurable act of generosity and has taken a massive weight off the shoulders of the Parent Council and will allows us to focus on maintaining these busses, we cannot thank these companies enough for what they have offered us”.
Langlands Parent Council would also like to thank all the local businesses and community for the support provided to us through donations and raffle prizes and everyone for coming and supporting our race night the funds raised will go towards keeping the schools 2 minibuses running.
£3106.60 was raised at the race night which will cover running cost’s of the buses for the next year.
