Local Online Charity Auction Raises Over £2000

A postponed local charity auction has raised over £2000 by running an online auction of just a few of the promises donated.

Colin Marriott, Chris Walker, Sue McMinn and Marina McGougan decided to raise much needed funds for MND Scotland and Parkinsons UK after various attempts to hold an actual supper and auction night were thwarted by the Covid pandemic restrictions.

The online auction ran over November and December and the ten lots up for bidders has raised over £2000 and includes personal donations made over and above the items listed for auction.

Sue McMinn who was due to run the London Marathon last year for Parkinsons said she was delighted with the response and the generosity of people under the current difficult circumstances. Sue has now raised over £5500 for Parkinsons UK. The auction included signed Queen of the South memorabilia, F1 Red bull memorabilia, a handmade quilt, a festive hamper and a selection of generously donated gin and wines.

Chris Walker owner of the Selkirk Arms Hotel in Kirkcudbright told us “ We were disappointed not be able to run the actual event but the generosity of those who donated auction promises necessitated a call to action and an online auction seemed the best way to try and get funds to these two amazing charities. It is with sadness that Marina’s husband Alasdair McGougan lost his fight against MND in November on his 64th birthday. The fight must go on to help MND Scotland provide the vital support that I know Alasdair and Marina received from this wonderful charity”

The charity auction is to be rescheduled in June of this year where 50 further lots will be put under the hammer.

There are more than 400 people with Parkinson’s in Dumfries and Galloway, and these are difficult times for our community. Thanks to the amazing support of people like Sue, Chris, Colin and Marina we’re adapting by boosting our helpline capacity, providing tailored online exercise classes and making sure people who normally receive face-to-face support continue to do so in new ways.
