The Kirkcudbright Stones Project has attracted a great deal of interest over the summer with locals and visitors alike enjoy looking at them on St Cuthberts’ Church wall in the town.
So many people have added to the huge snake of painted stones and the sense of pride and community spirit has created a tremendous feeling of goodwill and coming together during this difficult period.
The group propose to move the stones to Atkinson Place and create an attractive stone snake design with brand new benches and a smart plaque kindly donated by Douglas Swan to recognise the positive contribution that the community has made. Group leaders Andree Paterson and Margaret McKinney said, ‘This is the ideal location as it will provide an attractive new landscaped garden and relaxation area by the new ‘Johnston Centre,’ next to the nursery to offer a waiting area for parents.’
Councillor Pauline Drysdale, alongside Dougie Swan have been helping the group to determine whose land it is but all avenues have drawn a blank.
Councillor Drysdale added, ‘The Council have been most helpful and are encouraging the group to proceed but should anyone have any objections to the landscaping and artistic plans please contact Andree Paterson on [email protected] by 8/10/20 to register feedback or to access the plans. We assume that the land is Common Good but it is only right and proper that we ask one last time in case anyone has any objections to this excellent community led project.’
