The outstanding fundraising efforts of Castle Douglas lass Rachel Biggar in support of RSABI have been recognised by The Wiseman Family Charitable Fund, which has topped-up her to total to over £30,000.
In summer 2021 Miss Biggar completed a month-long challenge running 100km to raise funds in memory of her late father Donald Biggar OBE, who was a great supporter of RSABI.
As well as being a very well-respected Dumfries & Galloway farmer, Mr Biggar was renowned for his Chapelton Beef Shorthorn and Aberdeen-Angus herds and was a stalwart of native British beef breeds.
He was involved in many organisations including Quality Meat Scotland, SRUC and the Royal Smithfield Club and had served as chairman of WCF, which kindly donated £5,000 of the total amount raised.
The Wiseman family were so impressed with Miss Biggar’s achievement, having read about it in the farming press, they contacted RSABI and offered a further £15,000 to take the total up to a remarkable £31,750.
Alan Wiseman said: “We were very touched by Rachel’s challenge and her determination to raise funds for RSABI in memory of her father, Donald. Our contribution is very much a reflection of her efforts and her commitment to support the valuable work of RSABI.”
Miss Biggar is absolutely thrilled with the donation and extended her sincere thanks to the Wiseman family.
“I’m so grateful to The Wiseman Family Charitable Fund for their very generous donation to my fundraiser. When I started the challenge I was hoping to raise £1,000 for RSABI, as supporting people in the Scottish agricultural community was so important to Dad.
“To have exceeded my initial target by so much is just incredible and I would like to once again thank everyone in the agricultural community and beyond who got behind my fundraising efforts and made a donation,” Miss Biggar said.
