Song, St Andrew, Syria and Saltires

A celebration of kindness, compassion and caring across cultures on St Andrew’s Day.

Where: The YMCA Centre, Lochside Road, Dumfries

When: Saturday 30th November 2019 (St Andrew’s Day) from 7pm (Free Entry)

Local charity Massive Outpouring of Love has secured funding from BEMIS to hold a wonderful celebration of kindness on St Andrew’s Day in the heart of Dumfries as part of the wider St Andrew’s Day celebrations and St Andrew’s Fair Saturday across Scotland.

The event will be a glorious blend of Songs sung by the newly rebooted Moving Stories Global Community Choir, led by Kate Howard, – including the world premiere of our especially commissioned song Begin With A Grin, composed by Lucy Renwick. The choir will also perform songs around the world, including songs in Syrian and Gaelic – and you can join in too!

Renita Boyle will be sharing some stories, as will some of our friends who have recently made Scotland their home, with the emphasis on kindness, the importance of welcoming, and compassion; all in the spirit of St Andrew and his famed actions.

Guests have the option to bring a dish to share, so this will be the perfect opportunity to taste some delicious Syrian fayre and dishes from across the globe. If you are able to bring a culinary contribution, please make sure you bring a note of all the ingredients in case of allergies and dietary restrictions. No alcohol, please!

This event is free, family friendly, and open to all ages. The venue is accessible and has adult changing facilities.

Please join us in our celebrations; we’d love to see you there and, if you are interested in joining the choir, please get in touch!
