Thornhill Woman Bags 3 Munro’s For Parkinson’s UK

Victoria Wagstaff from Thornhill in Dumfries and Galloway dusted off her walking boots and has decided to conquer 3 Munros in a charity challenge.  Already a third of the way there, having climbed Ben Lawers, she is now in training for Ben Nevis and Ben Lomond in April and May of next year.

Victoria’s mum was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 6 years ago and her story has inspired Victoria to challenge herself and make a real difference.

Victoria said, “I have always been a keen walker and outdoor person but never walked anything this big before.  I have been training by walking 5-6 miles a day in my local area with my border collie Finn who is walking the Munros with me along with my partner Nick – well, you need to have cheerleaders and a photographer right?
“My mum means everything to me and all the hard work Parkinson’s UK, doctors and scientists are doing makes me want to raise as much money as I can to help towards the cause.
“I have so far raised £870 with a target of £1000 and I’m still collecting via sponsor forms all around Thornhill.  I am also raising funds for Cancer Research with the same challenge – which is another cause close to my heart.”

Jan Mattison, Regional Fundraiser for West Scotland  said, “Victoria has set herself a real challenge by climbing not one, but three Munros and we’re absolutely bowled over by the effort she is putting in.  We really want to thank her and wish her lots of luck every step of the way.

“There are more than 400 people with Parkinson’s in Dumfries and Galloway, and these are difficult times for our community. Thanks to the amazing support of people like Victoria, we’re adapting by boosting our helpline capacity, providing tailored online exercise classes and making sure people who normally receive face-to-face support continue to do so in new ways.”
