Tributes Pour In, In Memory Of Midwife Helen Renton

A Fundraiser in memory of 44-year-old Midwife and mum of 3, Helen Renton from Dumfries who was tragically killed in a road traffic incident with a van whilst she was cycling on Sunday, 11 April, 2021 on the A710 near Southwick, Dumfries and Galloway has been set up by her close friend and work colleague Suzi Sheerin from Castle Douglas.

Police Said “The incident happened at around 1.05pm on Sunday, 11 April, 2021 on the A710 near Southwick. A white Peugeot van travelling west was involved in a crash with a cyclist riding a black Trek bicycle which was heading east at Southwick Bridge. Emergency services attended and 44-year-old Helen Renton from Dumfries was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin has been informed.”

Suzi told DGWGO” This fundraiser is in memory of my best friend, here in Dumfries, I have worked with Helen in Cresswell since last June. I moved from NHS Lanarkshire where I worked as a midwife for 18 years mainly as a labour ward midwife and latterly as a community midwife to take up a post in the birthing suite. We were both quite new Helen started in the March and we hit it off straight away being of a similar age and with wee boys who are the same age too. Helen was a fitness fanatic where I wasn’t but our friendship went from strength to strength. We were in daily contact with each other and met up with the boys whenever we could due to Covid restrictions.

Helen was tragically killed whilst out cycling on Sunday the 11th of April. I am hoping to raise money to help with the inevitable funeral costs and to try and give her partner Chris and their wee boy Charlie a wee bit of help in the coming months. Helen also leaves behind her older children Jack and Alice.

Helen simply loved life! She is a mother, daughter, midwife, friend and cycling fanatic! Her passion for cycling whilst raising money for charity was simply awe inspiring. She is loved by many and will be so sadly missed.

Please help with whatever amount you can. Thank you”
