GG’s Yard outside Gatehouse of Fleet organised a sell out charity event in aid of rugby legend Doddie Weir’s My Name5 Doddie Foundation which raises funds for MND. The evening, held on 3rd March, saw rugby legends unite for a dinner, speakers and auction and raised £27,000 for the MND charity.
The event sold out within three hours of tickets going on sale. Half of the proceeds of the tickets, along with donations and funds raised by both a live and silent auction, helped raise the impressive total of £27,000. Speakers included rugby legends Duncan Hodge, Gary Armstrong and Jim Telfer along with a video message from former Captain of the All Blacks Sean Fitzpatrick. The evening had an optional theme of Terrible Tartan, inspired by Doddie’s renowned sense of style.
Doddie, who founded the charity when he was himself diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, said of the evening “A huge thank you to Duncan and everyone who helped make the evening at GG’s Yard such a success. It was a tremendous night, full of fun and it was especially enjoyable to see so many familiar faces. I greatly appreciate the hard work and effort that went into organising the evening, and all the people who supported the night. And of course a special thanks to Gary, Jim and Duncan for coming along too. The support we have received since launching the Foundation in November has been incredible. We have already shared details of our first investment into MND Research and there is more to come. We are also supporting people affected by this terrible disease and this is only possible through the generosity and enthusiasm of people like Duncan and everyone at Laggan. Together, we can make a difference”
Owner of GG’s Yard and organiser of the event Duncan McConchie added “The night was a great success, fun from start to finish. When the rugby legends were talking you could hear a pin drop. We’re delighted with the amount raised for such a good cause and we thank everyone that came along, supported the event and helped to make a difference. “
