Harper Visits ‘School Close’ In Kirkcudbright

SOUTH of Scotland MSP   Emma Harper visited ‘School Close’ in Kirkcudbright to visit staff and people supported at the new care service.

School Close has been developed by Community Integrated Care in partnership with Loreburn Housing Association and Dumfries & Galloway Council.  It provides a specialist supported living service and offers modern apartments to its tenants and leading assistive technology solutions with an aim to maximise their independence, adapt with changing needs and keep them at the heart of the community.

Heather Birnie, who met Emma and showed her the School Close premises, commented “We were delighted to welcome Emma to our incredible care service. We are extremely proud of what has been achieved in the development of School Close, which the people we support have been involved with, every step of the way.

Heather continued “I’d like to thank Emma for visiting the people we support. It has been an incredible journey for them from the Mansefield House premises. The people Emma met were welcoming and extremely proud to be able to show off their homes and share their experiences of independent living with her.”

Commenting on the visit, Ms Harper said,

I spoke with two of the tenants who live at School Close. I particularly listened to the experiences of one young lady who has now great confidence in her support. She has great enthusiasm for her home and her support workers and is now demonstrating an ability to be a spokesperson for people in her community.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to School Close to meet staff and tenants, and it is great to see such a valuable service being implemented locally to support a more independent approach to living.

“I would like to offer my support to Community Integrated Care and School Close and wish them all the best with the great work they do”.
