LOCAL MSP SEEKS ANSWERS ON WHITESANDS POST OFFICE CLOSURE

Dumfriesshire MSP Elaine Murray has called for Post Office Ltd. to show greater priority for repair work for the Whitesands Post Office in Dumfries. The Post Office has been closed since the Hogmanay floods, with the re-opening not being expected until the 25th February.

A number of constituents have approached Dr Murray regarding the extended closure, with some concerned that the Post Office do not intend to re-open at all.

Dumfriesshire MSP Elaine Murray said:

“The lengthy closure of the Post Office on the Whitesands has become a major hindrance for many of my constituents who rely on its services. Everyone appreciates the fact that it was flooded, but businesses up and down the sands that were also devastated by the recent floods have been re-opened for weeks.

“The flooding concerns were of course one of the main arguments against relocating the Crown Post Office in Great King Street to the Whitesands in the first place. Post Office Ltd need to show far greater priority for the repair work, which will in turn nip the rumours of closure in the bud.”
