Moffat Super Sunday Plans Cancelled! But Please Still Visit

In a last ditch attempt to hold a ‘Super Sunday’ in Moffat this weekend after the towns promotions group were forced into cancelling their annual sheep race weekend due to legal reasons, the committee have had to pull the plug on all plans for Sunday 13th August, the Moffat Promotions Group have decided NOT to hold the Super Sunday event either. But don’t be disheartened, Moffat is still worth visiting on Sunday, DGWGO have listed a few reasons why.

SUPER SUNDAY PLANS
While it was thought initially that the ‘Super Sunday’ could replace the Sheep Races, which had to be cancelled due to legal issues with Dumfries and Galloway Council, the group have had a re-think.
They apologise for the confusion to those who were looking forward to coming to Moffat High Street on Sunday, but two days’ notice has proved too big an obstacle to overcome.

A spokesperson said:
“While we were keen for an alternative event to go ahead on Sunday, the fact that we have had to cancel the Sheep Races with two days’ notice means that getting an alternative event organised was just going to prove too difficult.
We pride ourselves as a group on putting on events to the highest standard for the people of and visitors to Moffat, so with a lack of things going on in the High Street as a result of the races being cancelled, we have decided to pull the plug on ‘Super Sunday’.
It is a real shame that it has had to come to this as we were aware of people coming from far and wide to visit our wonderful town’ but we didn’t want to put on an event which would be half-hearted.”

However if you were planning on visiting Moffat on Sunday 13th of August, do not change your plans, there is still lots to enjoy with the monthly Farmers market in the  Town Hall, High Street, Moffat, DG10 9HF from 10.30am-3pm where you can browse 25 to 30 stalls each month inside and outside Moffat Town Hall including locally reared lamb beef and venison, fish, eggs, pates, smoked produce, artisan and other breads, pies, home baking, desserts, vegetables, jams, curds, chutneys and marmalades, fudge, chocolate, salami, pork sausages, bacon, cheese, cider, fruit wines and real ales, complimented by quality craft and plant stalls.  There’s also hot food to eat or take away and free parking on the High Street.

Plus the town is a wonderful place to explore, and it offers a fantastic array of shops and restaurants and cafes and bars to explore and enjoy.
