Queens Takes a Stance Against Violence Against Women and Girls

Queen of the South FC (QoSFC) is continuing to work alongside the Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women Partnership to support the White Ribbon Scotland Campaign. This campaign raises awareness of domestic abuse and other forms of violence which mainly affects women and girls.

On Sunday 21st February, at 4pm, Queens will play against Glasgow Rangers and this will be a ‘White Ribbon’ game. It is expected that around 3,000 supporters will be given cards featuring the team wearing White Ribbons on their shirts along with a message encouraging them to support the new D&G White Ribbon Campaign. This will give people a platform to speak out against domestic abuse and other forms of violence, as well as providing opportunities to take further action, if they wish to.

There will be an opportunity to take pictures of the Team supporting the White Ribbon Campaign just before the game at 3.20pm.

Jim Thomson, QoSFC Community Engagement Worker said: “We are delighted to support the local White Ribbon Campaign. This is another opportunity to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the harm experienced by anyone who suffers it. Together we can end this and the local White Ribbon Campaign gives people in Dumfries and Galloway an opportunity to do something about it.”

Daniel McKeever, Locality Social Work Manager and DAVAWP Vice Chair said: “Domestic abuse and other forms of gender based violence have devastating consequences for people, mainly women and girls, all over the world, including Dumfries and Galloway. The idea behind the D&G White Ribbon Campaign is to give local men an opportunity and a platform to take a stance against these forms of violence and, in this way, contribute to creating a fairer and safer Dumfries and Galloway. Working together with Queens and the rest of the D&G Community, we can achieve this. This game supports Dumfries and Galloway’s work to become a White Ribbon region.
