The Devil’s Porridge Museum shortlisted for Family Friendly National Award

The Devil’s Porridge Museum in Eastriggs, Dumfries and Galloway having received a nomination for the Family Friendly Museum Award administered by the London-based charity Kids in Museums has now been shortlisted as one of the final fifteen candidates for the award!

Chairman Richard Brodie said

We are delighted that our efforts to put young people and their families at the heart of our Museum have been recognised. Thanks to the efforts of our staff and volunteers everyone has a fun hands-on experience. It is a great way to learn about our amazing WWI story.
This nomination came in recognition of the fantastic work the Museum does with young people and families in the community. After attending the Easter activities at “The Porridge” one of the parents had the following to say as they nominated the Museum for the Kids in Museums award:
This wee museum has been fantastic from day one! As we all know it’s hard for a parent to keep their kids entertained during the holidays. The Devil’s Porridge has had a packed Easter programme, and all for free! From making war helmets to baking, my boys have loved it! This place is an asset to our wee village!

It’s great to see The Devil’s Porridge Museum on the shortlist for this year’s Family Friendly Museum Award. To make it to the shortlist in our most competitive year yet is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work staff have put in to create an enjoyable experience for families. We were really pleased to see that the Museum takes young people’s views on board. It is a real community hub, with activities ranging from autism to dementia friendly openings. We wish the museum the best of luck in the next round of judging.

The Devil’s Porridge Museum has just announced a programme of seven weeks of activities taking place over the school summer holidays. Full details of family friendly activities can be found on The Devil’s Porridge website, on the Facebook page or by contacting [email protected].
