CatStrand Youth Summer Programme 2016

CatStrand’s Summer programme for young people is approaching! A massive five weeks of Art, Film, Music and Dance events in the heart of the Stewartry! The programme is split into five, themed, weeks and contains everything from workshops, to day trips, to film screenings. First up is “Visual Arts Week” from July 12th – 15th. Join a trip to Jupiter Artland’s outdoor sculpture park in Livingston or create your own grafitti and street art. Science and Literature week handles all your storytelling needs with cosmic-themed poetry and story-telling for the under 16s from July 18th-21st – complete with the Scottish Dark Sky Observatory’s Blow-Up Planetarium. There is a five day film-making course on offer, as well as screenings of “Inside Out (U)” and Big Hero 6 (PG), in the film week between the 25th and 29th of July. For music-lovers, August 1st – 4th sees a series of workshops including “Bash The Trash Instrument Making” and DJ & MC Masterclasses take place before a trip to one of Scotland’s leading recording studios – Chem 19. It all comes to an end with a week of Choreography and Dance workshops and performances between August 8th and 11th. A complete programme leaflet containing all dates, times and booking form is available in-person from CatStrand, New Galloway, or online via www.catstrand.com

All of the activities are free of charge (with the odd exception) and generally open to all young people between the ages of 12 and 25 although each event carries a specific age recommendation. Can’t get to New Galloway? Simply get in touch – a range of options are available to get you to and from the events thanks to the support of Glenkens Transport Initiative.
