The March meeting of the Dumfries Accordion and Fiddle Club was held on Tuesday 3rd March when current Scottish Accordion Champion Liam Stewart from Galston and his trio, comprising of Liam, Leonard Brown (South Shields) on harmony accordion and Gordon Smith (East Lothian) on drums were the guest artistes.
The trio treated us to a magical mix, of the best in accordion music. A programme of varied tunes and tempos with the excellent arrangements of Liam’s.
The large crowd were in awe at the great music and were happy to shout for more at the end.
During the trios second half performance, Liam congratulated Dumfries Club stalwart Ian Gray who was celebrating his 91st birthday.
The company joined in with a lively rendition of Happy Birthday to Ian.
John Caskie thanked Liam, Leonard and Gordon for the great music and further thanked them for including a visit to the Dumfries Club in their busy schedule.
Local and visiting supporting players were slightly down in number, however those who did play were all well received by the audience.
Accordionists, were John Waugh (Carlisle) Brian Maxwell (Dumfries, Gavin Foster (Heathhall) Newby Park (Carlisle) Steven McWhan (Locharbriggs) Matthew Murray (Dumfries) and a visitor to the Club, formerly of Inverness and Dundee, now on a work placement in Dumfries, Ian Stewart.

John Caskie thanked the local players , the Crichton Golf Club and the audience for their support, before handing back to guests The Liam Stewart Trio who finished in style with a great arrangement of Donald Ian Rankine and Mrs Mary Printy.
