Young Anglers Catch Top Tips at Drumlanrig Castle

Nith Catchment Fishery Trust has teamed up with Drumlanrig Castle and Queensberry Estate, in a bid to inspire young people to fish through a packed calendar of angling events taking place on the Estate.

The free monthly events held by Nith Young Anglers Club will teach youngsters the basics of fishing grayling, flounder, sea trout, salmon, coarse fish and trout.

No experience is necessary as all equipment is supplied and Borderlines professional angling instructors will be on hand to teach kids the basics of fishing, and what to do after a successful catch.

Alan Nisbet, Estate Manager at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: “We are always keen to encourage young people to fish and with so many great spots on the Estate, we are delighted to team up with the local Fishery Trust to host several angling events this year.

“Budding anglers can perfect their new skills throughout the year as season tickets for Drumlanrig Castle are free for those under the age of 18 when accompanied by an adult season ticket holder.”

Debbie Parke, from Nith Catchment Fishery Trust, said: “Following the very successful Fishing for the Future project, the Nith Catchment Fishery Trust developed the Nith Young Anglers Club to provide a stepping stone for these young people to take up the sport of fishing in a safe environment.

The project has gained the support of landowners throughout the catchment and very generously from Drumlanrig Castle and Queensberry Estate, without which the project would not exist.

“In addition, the Nith Young Anglers Club has received financial support from the Holywood Trust, Dumfries and Galloway Council and other private funders. The Nith Young Anglers look forward to fishing on the beautiful surroundings of Drumlanrig Castle and Queensberry Estate.”

Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate is well known for its extensive fishing offer in the region giving access to 10.5 miles over five beats of the River Nith (Nith Linns, Castle Upper, Castle Middle, Castle Lower and Mid Nithsdale) containing approximately 40 pools.
