Calling All Families: Get Ready for a Series of Free Fun Days in Dumfries and Galloway

Dumfries and Galloway Council is organizing a series of Active Schools and Community Sport FREE family fun days, offering a fun and relaxed opportunity for families to engage in various activities together during the holidays.

The events will take place on different dates and locations, each offering a unique set of activities and attractions.

Thursday, 6th July, 10am – 12noon, Kirroughtree Visitor Centre:

At Kirroughtree Visitor Centre, families can enjoy a variety of sports in a summer drop-in session. The event offers Forest Family Fun, and attendees can participate in various activities organized by the team and volunteers. These activities aim to promote local clubs and include a fun run, a mini games corner, sports challenges, a golf area for pitch and putt, a Wimbledon-style court, and much more. Please note that car parking charges apply.

Wednesday, 12th July, 10am – 12noon, Castledykes Park, Dumfries:

Nithsdale Active Schools is hosting a free morning of activity to celebrate the opening of the new permanent orienteering course at Castledykes Park. Families are invited to come and try out the new course, which features two maps for navigation. In addition to orienteering, there will be an obstacle course, family fun games, and other activities to enjoy. Afterward, visitors can take advantage of the park facilities, have a picnic, or explore Dock Park and its activities.

Wednesday, 12th July, 10am – 12noon, Agnew Park, Stranraer:

Families are welcome to join the sports and activities taking place at Agnew Park. In collaboration with partners, there will be plenty of sports equipment available for families to try and play with. Participants can also enjoy a short walk, take part in obstacle races, and engage in a fun family treasure hunt in the park.

Tuesday, 18th July, 2pm – 4pm, Seaforth Tennis Courts area, Annan:

An afternoon of family-friendly sports awaits at the Seaforth Tennis Courts area in Annan. The event offers various sports activities, including tennis with Annan Seaforth Tennis Courts and petanque with the new Annan Petanque Club. All the necessary equipment will be provided, and local club coaches will be present throughout the afternoon to offer guidance and instruction.

Wednesday, 19th July, 10am – 12noon, Dalbeattie Town Wood:

At Dalbeattie Town Wood, families can enjoy a whimsical Bluey-themed family walk. Inspired by Australia’s beloved animated series, participants can follow Bluey’s paw prints and immerse themselves in the wonders of the woodland. This enchanting opportunity promises laughter, exploration, and heartfelt connections amidst the beauty of Dalbeattie Town Woods. Please be aware that car parking charges apply.

Tuesday, 8th August, 1.00pm – 4.00pm, Victory Park, Lochmaben:

Young people and families are invited to participate in a variety of activities at Victory Park in Lochmaben. The event includes a quiz trail around the loch, giant board games, fun races, tennis at Lochmaben Tennis Club, bowling at Lochmaben Bowling Club, golf, and possibly the opportunity to try sailing on Castle Loch.
