Castle Loch Footpath Officially Opened

OVER 70 people turned out today, January the 17th 2017 for the official opening of the new Castle Loch Footpath at Lochmaben.

Even though it was a very  misty winters morning it was thankfully dry and the large crowd was not worried one bit as they enjoyed homemade soup and sausage rolls and lots of New Year chatter, before the official opening speeches and ribbon cutting by local resident Hal McGhie. After the ribbon was cut many of the attendees headed off to test the new path and enjoy a walk around the loch.

Darran Flint who is one of Castle Loch Lochmaben Community Trust told DGWGO ” The new stretch of footpath reroutes a section away from a roadside verge and now takes it along the edge of pretty woodland. This is the final piece of the jigsaw that forms the 3-mile walking circuit of Castle Loch. We have also fenced all along a roadside hedge making it much safe for children visiting with there families or taking part in activities at the Forest School.”

He went on to say “There were several speeches today, thanking all the hard work of the volunteers for clearing the route of the new path and fencing, plus the core funders who were Dumfries and Galloway Leader, Awards for All, George Hunter Trust, Royal Four Towns and Lochmaben Community Councils and many individual donors.
