Carlisle Cathedral To Host Family Friendly Activities This Easter

CARLISLE Cathedral will host a series of family-friendly events over the Easter holidays as part of its 900th anniversary celebrations.

The fun activities and all age worship are part of the Cathedral’s Holy Week and Easter programme of worship and events.

Easter holiday activities include Easter Felting workshops where families can create colourful Easter gifts and decorations; Plant and Paint sessions where they can paint their own plant pot before planting seeds in it to bloom in Spring; and Illuminating Art workshops where participants can draw inspiration from medieval manuscripts to create their own artwork using watercolours.

On Good Friday, a Love Unstoppable event will be held in the Cathedral grounds from 10.30am where families are invited to join in with arts and crafts, and songs and prayers inspired by the Easter story, while on Easter Sunday the Cathedral’s regular All Ages service in the Fratry Hall will be a special Easter celebration.

The Revd Canon Michael Manley, who is Canon Missioner at Carlisle Cathedral, said: “Easter is a very special time at the Cathedral, and our family-friendly events, worship and activities are an important part of our celebrations.
“Our family-friendly worship includes arts and crafts, games, videos, singing and prayers in a relaxed, informal atmosphere which makes it fun and engaging for children and adults.
“With the past two Easter celebrations being affected by the pandemic, we are very much looking forward to welcoming people back to the Cathedral this year for our services and activities.”

Carlisle Cathedral is holding a programme of events throughout 2022 to mark 900 years since its foundation. Highlights include a summer season of music celebrating the history and musical life of the Cathedral; projects involving schools and communities across Cumbria; and an art installation ‘Rest Under the Stars’, where people can admire the stars on the Cathedral’s painted ceiling from deckchairs.

The Easter holiday activities begin on Tuesday, April 5 with the Easter Felting workshop. The activity, which is also held on Thursday, April 14, takes place from 10am to 11.30am and is open to adults and children aged seven years or over (£5 per person).

The Paint and Plant workshop takes place on Tuesday, April 12 from 10am to 11.30am (£10 per person), and Illuminating Art takes place on Thursday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 13 from 10am to 11am (£3 per person).

All workshops are open to both children and adults and take place in the Cathedral’s Undercroft. Accompanying adults are free but must book their place in order to monitor numbers. Book tickets at https://carlislecathedral.org.uk/tickets/
