Don’t Miss Out on a Top Countryside Day Out in Dumfries and Galloway  

Come rain or shine Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate is set to welcome thousands of visitors for its annual Galloway Country Fair next weekend.

Taking place on Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 August, the Fair is one of the biggest events in Dumfriesshire’s rural calendar and showcases the best of country pursuits, local craftsmanship, artisan food and drink as well as show-stopping entertainment.

Fans of the Fair will be delighted to hear some favourites will be returning to the Buccleuch ring and stage this year including the comical Sheep Show, Elite Falconry, gundog displays from John Halstead and the Dog and Duck Show.

The headline entertainment will be provided by premier equine and canine stunt team Les Amis D’Onno who are set to excite the crowds with their breath-taking and death defying horseback tricks. Their impressive displays have featured in popular TV drama Outlander which Drumlanrig Castle itself has also featured, as a backdrop in the programmes second season.

Galloway Motorcycle Club will also be attending and crowds can view thrilling displays from world champion trial rider Dougie Lampkin MBE.

A four figure prize pot of £1,200 is also up for grabs for young shots, proficient clay shooters and anglers at Galloway Country Fair this year. This is split between clay shooting and fly casting competitions across the weekend which is sure to instil excitement and healthy competition for all the family. Attendees will have access to expert tuition too in the form of casting demonstrations and clinics provided by Borderlines and qualified shooting instructors on hand from Roxtons.

That’s not the only action to get involved with at this year’s event with activities to try like the 4×4 route from Border Cars, Galloway Gundogs scurry and terrier racing.

The free children’s activity zone is sure to be popular with youngsters as it features horse rides on the Blackstone Clydesdales and Puppet Lab’s Forest Creatures Show. Kids can burn off some energy at the activity zone on the bouncy castles or at the archery stations provided by Team Challenge.

On top of the jam-packed entertainment line-up and come-and-try activities there is also hundreds of stalls to browse including dedicated crafts and food and drink tents. They showcase the very best of local produce, crafts, homeware and outdoor sports attire including Fair regulars and brand new exhibitors – it’s a family day out not to be missed.

Galloway Country Fair takes place on Saturday 18 August, from 10am to 6pm and Sunday 19 August, from 10am to 5pm.Tickets are priced at £14 for adults, £5 for children aged under 16 years, £10 for concessions and £32 for a family pass (two adults and three children). Under-fives go free.
